We are one of the world's largest producers and marketers of copper with our mining, refining and recycling operations and development projects within the key mining regions of Africa, Australia, Philippines & Americas.
We are looking for a Social Performance Lead & ASM who will drive and influence performance of multidisciplinary teams within the assets in a fast pace and dynamic environment, making a difference to the social context within which we operate.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Lead the implementation of the Social Performance, Human Rights, Cultural Heritage and Artisanal and Small-scale Mining strategies for Copper Africa;
• Foster an impact-focused culture by supporting our two sites in the DRC to develop and their action plans;
• Provide leadership for the assets on effective deployment of Compliance policy and procedure in the execution of Social Investments and Projects;
• Advise on how to deal with risk, understanding the assessment of potential maximum consequence, current level of risk, and control effectiveness;
• Develop tailor-made solution to de-risk our key regional projects and ensure key social risks are addressed at sites;
• Coordinate the regional reporting on social programs, including deploying reporting methodology and standards, Monitor and evaluate implementation of Social Performance related policies and standards;
• Work with regional team to adequately promote and communicate the work done on Social Performance, Human Rights, Cultural Heritage and ASM;
• Work with our Copper Department to develop Social Performance and Human Rights policy, strategies, annual plans, targets and performance indicators;
• Suggest and develop social project that explore synergy opportunities with our regional partners and customers;
• Contribute to the development of guidelines and protocols based on specific Social Performance and Human Rights related topics that are Glencore Copper strategic focus areas, risks and opportunities;
• Support the sites to establish and maintain Social Performance and Human Rights systems to manage data, information and measure performance on key metrics and program delivery;
• Assist in the data collection, analysis, compilation and coordination of Social Performance and Human Rights data for Glencore Copper and Corporate reports;
• Review copper assets’ Social Performance and Human Rights risk registers and determine what needs to be changed based on risk type, frequency, and controls related to the risk for the region:
• Assist Copper Department wit the coordination of the HSEC Assurance Program. Participation/assistance on Social Performance and Human Rights Department Audits. Active involvement in Standard compliance verification.
Key Relationships:
• Copper Africa Assets (Mutanda Mining and KCC);
• Copper Africa Functions (Country Management, Technical Services, Projects, Risk & Assurance, Communication, Safety & Health, Environment, Human Resources, Legal);
• Copper and Cobalt Marketing;
• Cu Industrial Assets Department Functions (Sustainability, HSEC);
• External Stakeholders (RMI, FCA, The Copper Mark etc).
This role will be based in Kolwezi, DRC, reporting to the Commercial Partnership Lead – Copper Africa
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Tertiary degree in social science, or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred;
WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• 8-10 years’ experience working in social performance and human rights role in a mining, oil and gas operation;
• Experience working in the Social Performance arena within the DRC;
• Assurance, auditing and reporting experience preferred;
• Bilingual with excellent verbal and written communication in both French and English is required;
• Exceptional ability to communicate and report to senior leadership in a constructive and concise manner.
